State’s Public Health Chief Resigns Amid Crime Lab Crisis

BOSTON — In the rolling catastrophe of the state drug lab, we now know the buck apparently stops with Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach.

Auerbach has submitted his resignation, accepting blame for the failure to monitor, detect and report the mishandling of drug samples by a single state chemist.

The drug evidence in as many as 34,000 cases has now come under suspicion.

Seems like there is inadequate if any quality control or adult supervision at the lab! The resignation is not so much the Commissioner falling on his sword as a true reflection of a poorly run establishment for which he is fully responsible. Also it is disturbing that he already has  a new (better?) position while leaving a facility in disarray. Does not say much good about him.
