CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Rafael Reif, the 17th president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, formally took office Friday with a stern warning for the school about some major challenges that it and other research universities are facing.

WBUR’s Curt Nickisch spoke with host Deborah Becker about the inauguration.
