Hearings get underway Wednesday at the Massachusetts State House and in Washington to look into the fungal meningitis outbreak that originated at a Framingham compounding pharmacy. A congressional subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee will look into the matter.

The subcommittee’s chairman, Texas Rep. Michael Burgess, who is a doctor, joined WBUR’s All Things Considered host Steve Brown to discuss what troubles him most about the lack of oversight before the crisis.
