Extreme Obstacle Course Takes Over Fenway

The athletes at Fenway Park this weekend weren't the ones you usually see. For two days, the home of the Red Sox has been turned into an obstacle course.

Spartan Race, which calls itself "the world’s leading obstacle racing series," has built a three-mile course within the ballpark. The top three male and female finishers this weekend will be invited to the next level of competition, an eight-mile "Super Spartan."

CEO Brian Duncanson says this is Spartan's first attempt at an urban obstacle course. That didn't bother participant Rich Kreis, who was still excited five minutes after crossing the finish line.

"Awesome, by the way," Kreis said. "You got to go everywhere, got to be absolutely tortured. I'll go again right now. Let me race somebody. C'mon, let's go, me and you!"

The race is just the latest non-baseball event at Fenway this year, which has also hosted concerts, blood drives, and ice hockey games during its 100th year.
