City Of Boston Takes Constituent Services On The Road

The city of Boston is bringing select City Hall services to a sidewalk near you.

Starting Wednesday, constituents will be able to forgo a trip to Government Center and instead access a select "menu" of City Hall services from a truck dubbed "City Hall To Go."

Inspired by the food truck movement, the truck will travel to various Boston neighborhoods where residents will be able to pay or dispute parking tickets, request residential parking permits, pay property and excise taxes, sign up for a library card, request a birth, death or marriage certificate, and more.

“ ‘City Hall To Go’ builds on our mission to shake up the status quo in municipal services,” Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said in a statement. “This pilot offers one more way for Boston residents to get personal, timely service from the city, and makes it even easier by cutting out the trip to City Hall.”

The city says the truck, which was originally a Boston Police Department SWAT vehicle, will travel more regularly to Boston neighborhoods come spring and hopes the program will evolve based on feedback from residents.
