Few Thousand In Mass. Still Without Power

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, about 3,000 customers remained without power in Massachusetts, following the weekend snowstorm. (See outage map: NStar)

More than 400,000 outages were reported at the height of the storm, which left many areas with at least 2 feet of snow.

Gov. Deval Patrick said Wednesday that he was more satisfied with the response by the utilities than he was on the previous day, while adding that he understood the frustration of residents who are still without power.

State officials have said they will assess the response by the utilities to the storm once the restoration process is complete.

Snow emergency parking bans were lifted in Boston and Somerville Tuesday evening, and public schools in both cities reopened Wednesday. (See here for all closings and delays.)

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said plows have hit every street, but said the city could have done better plowing side and dead-ends streets, and pledged to do better in the next storm.
