Some Mass. Lawmakers Already Eyeing Markey Seat

The state's special U.S. Senate election is still four months away, but some Beacon Hill lawmakers are already gearing up for what could be Massachusetts' next special election.

Three state representatives have filed papers with the Federal Election Commission anticipating a possible Senate win by Democratic U.S. Rep. Edward Markey, which would trigger a special election for Markey's House seat.

Reps. Katherine Clark of Melrose, Carl Sciortino of Medford and William Brownsberger of Belmont are all banking on a Markey win to help propel them into Congress. All three are Democrats.

But Markey still has to beat fellow Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch in the Democratic primary on April 30.

If successful, Markey will then face the winner of the Republican primary in a general election scheduled for June 25.
