JetBlue Announces Fla. Flights To Worcester

BOSTON — The city of Worcester and Massport on Wednesday welcomed the return of commercial airline service to Worcester Regional Airport.

JetBlue announced Wednesday it will operate one flight each day to and from both Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando, beginning in November.

City and state officials have been courting JetBlue since Direct Air ended flights from Worcester last year, leaving the airport without passenger service.

Massport CEO Thomas Glynn said $32 million in improvements have made the airport more attractive to a major carrier.

“The new landing system that we’re installing made it a lot easier for JetBlue to make the commitment on their end, so I think the investments have really paid off for the Worcester region,” he said.

JetBlue already operates the most flights out of Boston’s Logan Airport. Worcester will be the company’s 80th destination.
