U.S. Rep. Kennedy Forms His Own Leadership PAC

U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III has created his own political action committee.

The Massachusetts Democrat formed his "4MA PAC" as a leadership PAC according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission. It has yet to report any contributions.

The FEC defines a leadership PAC as a political committee established, financed, maintained or controlled by a candidate or federal officeholder.

Many members of Congress form leadership PACs to support other candidates for various federal and nonfederal offices. It can also be used to raise a member's political profile in Congress.

A Kennedy spokeswoman said he formed the PAC because he wants to support candidates and causes he believes in.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren also formed a leadership PAC late last year shortly after defeating former Republican Sen. Scott Brown.

Warren called her committee the "PAC for a Level Playing Field."
