Crowds Bring Support To Boylston Street Businesses

More crowds are expected on Boylston Street Sunday afternoon as the city tries to return to normal after the marathon bombings.

On the first weekend since the area reopened, business is booming. The sidewalks were packed on Saturday. Many people were there to take pictures of the scene since the bombings, but others came to shop and to show their support for the businesses that had been closed for 10 days.

Some windows at Marathon Sports were still boarded up but manager Shane O'Hara said customers have been pouring in.

"I've never opened up the door on a normal Saturday and had probably 15 to 20 people walk in and also saying thank you and giving me flowers and stuff," O'Hara said, getting teary.

Courtney Keegan, from Uxbridge, was buying T-shirts at the store.

"It was very difficult to come today, obviously, but I felt like I needed to in supporting the businesses — very emotional," Keegan said.

Although there is no total tally of financial losses to the businesses, the 10 most affected estimate they have lost up to $2,500,000. But Back Bay businesses affected by the bombings can now apply for federal financial assistance.
