BOSTON — City Councilor John Connolly, one of a dozen candidates for mayor, is going on air with a new advertisement called “Committed.”
Connolly, who has made education his signature issue, talks to the camera about his own experience teaching and sending a child to Boston schools.
“I know we can make these schools work,” he says. “I’ve taught in an urban school that worked. I drop my daughter at an urban school that works.”
The ad is up on cable television early this week and will be on broadcast television later this week.
Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley, who went up on television in July, has spent the most on advertising to date in the mayor’s race. City Councilor Mike Ross has spent heavily in recent days.
Stand for Children, a national education reform advocacy group, endorsed Connolly last month and pledged to spend more than $500,000 on an independent expenditure campaign on his behalf.
The endorsement sparked a backlash about special interest spending in the race and Connolly asked the group not to spend on his behalf.
