BROCKTON, Mass. — A Brockton man has been charged in connection with a fatal hammer attack on a 74-year-old Pentecostal minister.

Authorities say 35-year-old Carlos Ramon Velazquez is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on charges including murder in the Aug. 20 beating death of Lee Harmon. Velazquez was arrested Wednesday.

The Plymouth district attorney’s office did not say what led police to Velazquez and did not disclose a motive. He was held overnight and it was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Witnesses told investigators they heard a commotion, then breaking glass and a verbal confrontation, before Harmon was found on the ground with severe head wounds.

Harmon, associate pastor of the Church of God in Christ in Roxbury, was riding his bike to see his daughter when he was killed.
