Red Sox Parade Set For Saturday At 10AM

Another Boston championship, another duck boat parade.

The parade, celebrating the Red Sox' World Series title, will wend its way through Boston on Saturday, Mayor Thomas Menino and team officials announced Thursday.

"One reason for selecting Saturday, besides the weather, is the fact that more kids and families will have the opportunity to come to this event," Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino said.

Players and others will climb aboard approximately 24 amphibious duck boats at Fenway Park at 10 a.m. The so-called "rolling rally" will travel down Boylston Street and will end with a dip in the Charles River.

The exact route, from the city, is:

- Start on Boylston Street at Ipswich Street;
- Left on Tremont;
- Left on Cambridge Street;
- Right on Blossom Street;
- Finish in the Charles River

The city said vehicular traffic will be banned along the route, starting at 9 a.m. until its conclusion at about 1 p.m.

The MBTA will increase service Saturday. All subway lines will operate with rush-hour levels of service, beginning at 7 a.m., and the commuter rail will run extra trains. (See here for more details.)

"If you are taking the commuter rail, come in early," Transportation Secretary Richard Davey said at a news conference Friday. "If you wait until the last minute, you are unlikely to get into the city."

The Boston Police Department will have extra officers on duty Saturday, and backpacks will be subject to random searches.
