MGM Submits Final Mass. Casino Application

MGM Resorts International has become the first company to file a final resort casino application in Massachusetts.

MGM announced on Monday that it submitted its Phase 2 application to the state gaming commission, one day ahead of the panel's deadline.

MGM has proposed an $800 million gambling and entertainment complex in Springfield and is the only applicant seeking the sole western Massachusetts resort casino license.

Michael Mathis, the company's vice president of global gaming development, said the application was "thoughtful and comprehensive," and would exceed the commission's expectations.

Mohegan Sun in Revere and Wynn Resorts in Everett are expected to apply for the single license in eastern Massachusetts. The panel expects to make licensing decisions by July 1.

This program aired on December 30, 2013. The audio for this program is not available.
