College Prep Group Exec: Accessible Test Prep As Important As SAT Changes

BOSTON — The College Board announced Wednesday afternoon that it plans on conducting a complete overhaul of the SAT exam.

To attempt to close the test’s socioeconomic gap among college applicants, the board plans to eliminate obligatory essays and replace cryptic vocabulary words with terms more common in today’s college classes.

Elissa Spelman is executive director of Breakthrough Greater Boston, an organization that helps prepare low income students for college. She joined WBUR’s Morning Edition to talk about some of these changes.
