Tisei Criticizes GOP’s Stance On Gay Rights

BOSTON — In a speech last Saturday at the Northeast Republican Conference, former state senator Richard Tisei criticized the Republican party’s platform on gay rights, including opposition to gay marriage. The openly gay candidate is challenging Democrat John Tierney in one of the country’s top congressional races. He joins WBUR’s Morning Edition to talk about the GOP’s stance on gay rights.

Tisei says, “It’s hard to be a 21st century party when you have a platform that is stuck in the 19th century.” I’d actually consider voting for a Republican party that was stuck in the 19th century. He even has to go back that far to cite the abolitionist and women’s suffrage history of the Republican party. This century’s Republican party is not inclusive and has been taken over by the radical social conservatives for whose agenda he will be another cog even if he votes against them on particular issues from time to time, he will help keep them in control of the House.
