Casino Panel Rejects Request To Delay Boston-Area License Decision

State gambling regulators rejected Boston Mayor Marty Walsh's request to stop further action on the eastern region casino license until after November's ballot referendum to repeal the state's casino law.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission held a hearing Wednesday at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown. Representatives from Mohegan Sun and Wynn Resorts and city officials from Boston, Revere and Everett were expected to make their case.

Walsh has said he does not want to spend time and money negotiating financial compensation deals with the two casino operators while the fate of the law is uncertain.

Mohegan Sun proposes a casino in Revere while Wynn Resorts proposes one in Everett. Only one of the proposals will earn a state license.
