Former state Probation Commissioner John O'Brien faces up to 20 years in prison after being convicted of federal racketeering and mail fraud charges in a case that accused him and two ex-employees of rigging the department's hiring process to favor politically connected applicants over more qualified ones.

Randy Chapman, the former chair of the criminal justice section of the Massachusetts Bar Association who served on a court-established task force that was prompted by the probation department scandal, joined WBUR's Morning Edition to discuss the verdict and its impact on Beacon Hill.

This segment aired on July 25, 2014.
