NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — New Bedford police responding to reports of gunfire over the weekend found a man dead.
The Bristol district attorney’s office says officers responded to Weld Square at about 2 a.m. Sunday and found a body in a grassy area adjacent to Route 18 near the Interstate 195 overpass.
The victim, identified Monday as 32-year-old Edson Ramos of New Bedford, was pronounced dead at the scene and police are investigating the death as a homicide.
Even though authorities say they responded to reports of gunfire, the manner of death is not being disclosed.
Police are asking anyone who knows anything about the shooting to contact them.
