Marijuana Reform Advocates Optimistic About Future

Two states now permit the recreational use of marijuana. Twenty-one others, including Massachusetts, plus Washington D.C. allow marijuana for medical treatment. But pot is still classified by the federal government as a Schedule I narcotic along with heroin and LSD, which presents legal difficulties for researchers trying to study marijuana's health benefits.

However, advocates for marijuana reform who met on the UMass Amherst campus on Monday, say they're optimistic additional research will soon be possible.
