Davey tells The Boston Globe that he plans to travel with his wife and then will look for a new job in the private sector.

His last day will be Oct. 31.

Davey says one of the things he's most proud of is winning back the public trust, which had plummeted in the wake of cost overruns and constructions errors associated with the Big Dig highway project.

Gov. Deval Patrick called Davey "a pivotal member of our team" and "effective at solving problems and advancing the transportation and economic agenda."
