Boston Man Charged With Kidnapping Woman Held On $500,000 Bail

A Boston man charged with kidnapping a woman at gunpoint and locking her in the trunk of his car before she escaped on a busy highway has been held on $500,000 bail.

Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of 28-year-old Adynew Alves at his arraignment Tuesday to charges including kidnapping and armed assault.

Prosecutors say Alves knew the woman and threatened her because he thought she had stolen drugs from him. Authorities say the alleged victim escaped from a moving car on Route 24 in Taunton on Sept. 23, but not before Alves threatened to kill her.

Alves fled and was located in Baltimore on Oct. 2.

The Taunton Daily Gazette reports that Alves' lawyer says no gun was ever found and his client has no criminal record.
