Ex-Prosecutor Charged With Leaking Information In Exchange For Drugs

A Massachusetts grand jury has indicted a former Middlesex assistant district attorney on allegations he traded law enforcement information for oxycodone pills.

State Attorney General Martha Coakley announced Thursday that 35-year-old Stephen Gilpatric of Somerville was indicted on charges including unlawfully communicating criminal offender record information and receiving unlawful compensation.

Gilpatric is to be arraigned Friday in Middlesex Superior Court. Gilpatric and his lawyer, Melinda Thompson, didn't immediately return messages Thursday from The Associated Press.

Thompson told The Boston Globe that Gilpatric never compromised any case. She called the case a "tragedy" and said Gilpatric overcame his addiction.

The Attorney General's Office says Gilpatric spent hundreds of dollars a week on his Oxycontin addiction and provided confidential law enforcement information to his drug supplier in exchange for drugs in 2011.
