Forecast: Frigid Friday, Then Days Of Light Snow

A frigid Friday morning for all of southern New England will lead to a cold afternoon. Even with the sunshine, highs will only reach the teens to lower 20s over Cape Cod. Sunglasses remain a necessity as the bright sun reflects off the deep snow cover.

Clear skies overnight bring another cold, though not as cold, night. Lows should remain above zero over a wider area, but fall below in the normally cold spots. Boston will be about 8 to 10 degrees by Saturday morning.

A front crosses the area on Saturday and brings with it a few clouds and some late day snow showers. Highs rebound into the 20s. This front then gets stuck to our south for the next four days and allow little ripples of energy to ride along its boundary. This means a chance of snow in the forecast from roughly late Saturday evening into Tuesday morning.

While there will likely be a break in the snow, we will witness close to 85 hours of snowfall.

While there will likely be a break in the snow, we will witness close to 85 hours of snowfall. If you add all this up, there is the potential for a lot more snow on the ground by the time we get to Tuesday night.

Throughout the next few days, snowfall totals may vary, and we might see less snow or a bit more. The theme is some snow for many hours, but I don’t see a period with heavy snow lasting very long. These types of events are notorious for not being forecast very well.

I highly recommend checking back here and on Twitter because the timing and amounts of the snow is going to change.

A couple of dry days next week will be followed by more cold weather for winter public school vacation and Presidents Day weekend.
