Boston Uber Driver Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Passenger

A Boston Uber driver has been arrested on charges that he indecently assaulted a woman he was giving a ride to early Sunday, police said.

Police say the 30-year-old victim and three friends called for an Uber ride early Sunday morning. After her friends were dropped off, the victim was alone with the driver to be dropped off at a different location. During this time, she told police that he then "indecently touched her several times," police said in a statement.

After an investigation, Abderrahim Dakiri, 36, of Boston, was arrested and charged with indecent assault and battery in East Boston, police said.

"Our thoughts are with the victim of this terrible incident," Uber spokeswoman Kaitlin Durkosh said in a statement. "We have been in close contact with the BPD since the allegations were reported and have been proactively providing information to them that has helped with their investigation. The driver in question has been removed from the platform pending the ongoing investigation."

According to the ride-hailing service's statement, Dakiri "passed Uber's Federal, State and Local background screening for uberX on January 13, 2015 and UberBLACK on September 23, 2014." Dakiri also holds a livery license from the Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles.

In late December 2014, former Uber driver Alejandro Done, 46, of Boston, was ordered held without bail in Cambridge District Court, accused of sexually assaulting a woman.
