Sen. Markey On Pope's 'Powerful' Speech

04:06

Pope Francis began his day on Thursday in Washington, D.C., with a historic address to U.S. lawmakers: He became the first pope to ever speak to a joint session of Congress.

Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey, a lifelong Catholic, was there with his wife, as well as a 93-year-old Revere resident and her son.

Markey joined WBUR's All Thing Considered to discuss how moving the pope's speech was, both as a Catholic and a senator.

This segment aired on September 24, 2015.
