With Closure Of Pilgrim Nuclear Plant On The Horizon, State Leaders Look To Hydropower
ResumeThe planned shutdown of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station means Massachusetts must get busy finding other sources of power.
State leaders, including Gov. Charlie Baker, are talking a lot about hydroelectric power.
"Vermont gets about a third of its energy right now from Canadian hydro at a very affordable price," Baker told WBUR. "I talked with former Gov. Howard Dean about it and he thinks its one of the best things he did as governor."
Dean joined WBUR's All Things Considered to discuss his state's use of hydropower, and says for a large state such as Massachusetts to turn to hydropower would be "groundbreaking."
