Jennifer Kimball holds a special place in the hearts of folk music fans and her fellow musicians throughout New England.

Back in the 1990s, she was one half of the seminal music group The Story. She later cut solo albums, wrote more songs, and often collaborated with fellow musicians on stage. But she needed a push to go out and record her newest LP, "Avocet," just out this month.

She got the push from her husband, musician Ry Cavanaugh, who on Kimball's last birthday concocted a scheme to get her in the studio. Kimball joined WBUR's All Things Considered to tell that story and discuss her new album.

Jennifer Kimball will perform her new album on Wednesday, March 22 at Club Passim.

This segment aired on March 22, 2017.
