What image comes to mind when you hear the word hacker? An anarchist working in the dead of night trying to subvert the world? Julian Assange of Wikileaks started out as a hacker, and Robert Morris unleashed what's thought to be the first computer worm ever in the 1980s, but now he's a professor at MIT.

According to Gabriella Coleman, hackers favor freedom of information, but they also believe in personal privacy. Coleman is an assistant professor at NYU.  She teaches a course about the subculture of hackers where Aristotle and Nietzsche are required reading to understand how hackers see themselves and their craft.

This segment aired on November 30, 2010.
