'Beginners' Director Mines His Past For Film
ResumeThe new film "Beginners" interweaves two stories: in one, Oliver, played by Ewan McGregor, develops a new, more open relationship with his father Hal (Christopher Plummer) after Hal comes out of the closet at the age of 75.
In the other, which takes place after Hal's death, Oliver struggles with grief, but manages to find love. The film is based on the experience of writer-director, Mike Mills, whose father revealed he was gay when he was 75. Mills spoke with producer Emiko Tamagawa.
