70s Album 'Aereo-Plain' 'Still Spinning On My Turntable'

As a Here and Now producer, I sometimes get a chance to prepare Robin for interviews with people who are also among my favorite artists-- people like Steve Earle and Rosanne Cash.

So when we interviewed David Bromberg, Robin asked him a question for me about a record he produced for the late great John Hartford in 1971.

It's called Aereo-Plain, and it's on my short list for best records of all time.

Notice I said records, because the CD version of Aereo-Plain is out of print.

I have to get by with my crackly vinyl version. But what a glorious crackle it is, John Hartford's vocals and banjo backed by Norman Blake's mandolin, Vassar Clements' violin, Tut Taylor's dobro and Randy Scruggs' electric bass.

It's classic bluegrass, or newgrass.

But whatever you want to call it, it still spins regularly on my turntable. Anyway, here's what David Bromberg had to say about producing Aereo-Plain.
