NPR Music editor and reviewer Stephen Thompson returns to bring listeners some music to wake up the ears.

This week he has the first single from the first album in four years by Indie scene-stealer Neko Case.

Thompson calls the visceral upbeat rock song "Man" a powerful statement on gender politics, from the perspective of a "man's man."

"I love the way it sounds, so hard-charging and so brash, but there are also these little touches of beauty and lots of crunching riffs," Thompson told Here & Now's Robin Young.

The rest of Case's new album, "The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You" is due out in September 3rd.
