Incandescents Phase Out Has Designer Hoarding Bulbs
ResumeThe end of the year will also bring the end of many incandescent light bulbs.
On January 1, it will be illegal to manufacture or import traditional 60- and 40-watt incandescent bulbs.
100- and 75-watt incandescent bulbs have already been phased out because of a 2007 law signed by President Bush that mandated lower energy use for light bulbs.
But some people aren't welcoming the phase out, and many are heading to hardware stores to stock up on incandescent bulbs.
Ann Pyne is one of them. She's a designer with the firm McMillen Incorporated. She has cleared space in her New York apartment to store hundreds of the bulbs.
She joins Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson to discuss the appeal of incandescent lights.
