U.S. officials believe more than 140 American have gone to fight in Syria and Iraq, but sometimes it’s difficult to determine why, and if they plan to come home as terrorists.

All this week, NPR counterterrorism correspondent Dina Temple-Raston has been reporting about Americans who’ve gone abroad to fight alongside Islamic extremists. She joins Here & Now’s Robin Young to talk about what she's found.
