Seattle To Fine Residents For Trashing Food Waste

If you peel an orange and toss the peel in the trash, shovel that little scoop of rice from dinner in the trash or even throw away a banana peel, there is a chance that your wastefulness will result in a fine in Seattle.

Earlier this week, the Seattle City Council passed a new measure that will fine residents if more than 10 percent of their garbage is food waste.

How will the city implement the measure? Seattle City Council Member Sally Bagshaw joins Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson to explain.
