New research delves into at how corporate spying impacts a country's economy.

Erik Meyersson, assistant professor at Stockholm School of Economics, and Albrecht Glitz, of Pompeu Fabra University, looked at East Germany's state-sponsored spying on West Germany in the 1970s and '80s. They found that the spying allowed East Germany to reduce its technological gap with West Germany, but there are also some serious downsides.
