On Monday, the University of Southern California will take on Penn State University in the 103rd annual Rose Bowl. The game will be played in Pasadena, California, as it has been every year except one — 1942.

Bill Littlefield from NPR's Only A Game explains why that is, and how a special bond developed between two men who played in that very game.

This segment aired on December 30, 2016.
