More than a year after Justice Antonin Scalia's death, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding its first hearing on a nominee to replace him. Appeals Court Judge Neil Gorsuch is President Trump's choice, and he appears Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which never held a hearing on former President Obama's nominee Merrick Garland.

Here & Now's Robin Young speaks with NPR's Ailsa Chang (@ailsachang) about the first hearing.

This segment aired on March 20, 2017.
