Race-Based Killing In New York Prompts Different Response Than Similar Case In 2014
ResumeThis week prosecutors say a 28-year-old white man, James Harris Jackson, traveled from Baltimore to New York City with one goal in mind: to kill black men. And he did kill one, 66-year-old Timothy Caughman.
But the case hasn't garnered nearly the same level of attention that another similar killing did in 2014 when a black man drove to New York, also from Baltimore, to kill police officers.
Here & Now's Robin Young talks with New York Times columnist Jim Dwyer (@jimdwyernyt) about those two cases, and the different way media outlets, the public, police and lawyers have talked about them.
This segment aired on March 24, 2017.
