Two years ago, the Macario family of Lynn, Massachusetts, said goodbye to their father when he was deported back to his native Guatemala after losing an asylum case. Last week, oldest son Isidro Macario — who came to the U.S. illegally when he was 13 to join his parents — faced the same fate.

Accompanied by federal immigration officers through security at Boston's Logan Airport, Isidro was sent back to Guatemala, leaving behind his three younger brothers, all U.S.-born citizens, and his mom, who's in sanctuary to avoid deportation.

WBUR's Shannon Dooling (@sdooling) met with the family just before Isidro was deported.

This segment aired on March 7, 2018.
