There's a shortage of psychiatrists across the country, especially in rural areas, at a time when there are calls to improve mental health care. The demand for psychiatrists is increasing as the population grows and ages, and the shortage means people with mental illness have a hard time getting care.

Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson talks with Dr. Darrell Kirch, president and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges, who's also a psychiatrist.

This segment aired on March 9, 2018.
