Texas Farmers Say State's 'Pickle' Definition Should Include More Than Just Cucumbers
ResumeFarmers in Texas are in a fight with the state over the definition of the word pickle. A state regulation says only pickled cucumbers can be called "pickles," but two farmers outside of Austin think the category should be expanded to other food items.
Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson talks with Anita and Jim McHaney, who bought a farm after they finished working full time and planned to grow and then pickle vegetables to sell at local farmers markets. They've filed a lawsuit against the Texas Department of State Health Services to fight the rules.
