Since the beginning of the pandemic we've been checking in with Kinsa Thermometer, a company that compiles data from millions of smart thermometer users to forecast where the next COVID-19 hotspots will be, weeks before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can.

The data, which is shared publicly, gives epidemiologists and public health officials a head start when it comes to stopping the spread.
