A Trip To Visit Family In Turkey Became Much More Eventful For This Somerville Woman

A trip back to the country where she grew up has turned out to be much more eventful for a Somerville woman than she ever could have imagined.

Gonca Sönmez-Poole arrived in Turkey late last month to visit her parents. She and her husband were in the southern part of the country last week when they noticed something different about the daily call to prayer and soon discovered a coup was underway. With airports still closed, it'll be a little while before they return home.

Sönmez-Poole joined WBUR's Morning Edition by Skype to tell us about her experience.
