Bitter Pill
By Martha Bebinger

Listen to story (Real Audio)

OBIE Award-winning playwright Sarah Jones
Boston - September 27, 2005 -

Part one of a series on healthcare disparities among the races.

Statistics show that medical outcomes for minorities are not as favorable as they are for white patients. One recent national study showed that blacks are less likely than whites to receive life-saving treatments after a heart attack, less likely to get new knees and hips, and less likely to get treatment for high blood sugar.

WBUR's Martha Bebinger listens in on a recent theatrical production that gives voice to those people who are often unheard in the disparities debate.
