Veal Goes Free Range

Dr. George Saperstein, a veterinarian with Tufts University, has created a program enabling New England farmers to generate a profit from humanely raising baby calves and selling them to local meat markets for veal production.

Marketed under the name Azuluna, the product not only offers hope for financially strapped family farms, but it also allows conscientious consumers to now eat veal with the knowledge that the animal was humanely raised.

WBUR'S business and technology reporter Curt Nickisch has more on the story.

This program aired on November 13, 2006. The audio for this program is not available.
