"La Gioconda" (r) compared to the genuine article.
Boston - June 01, 2006 - Recent interest in the work of Leonardo da Vinci, thanks to the much-hyped film adaptation of the "The Da Vinci Code" is also re-newing interest in a mysterious, centuries-old painting in Portland, Maine.

A 16th century painting that bears a strong resemblance to the "Mona Lisa "is now on display at the Portland Museum of Art. Exactly who painted "La Gioconda," is unknown, but there is evidence that it may have been painted by the Renaissance master himself, possibly a sort of rough draft of the one hanging in the Louvre in Paris.

Joining us to discuss the mystery painting is Carie Haslett, a curator at the museum.
