Possible Gas Tax Hike, User Fee

At the same time as Governor Patrick was pitching his casino proposal yesterday as a way to generate revenue for the state's transportation needs, down the road, an independent panel was unveiling its own ideas for easing the funding shortfall of almost $20billion over 20 years.

Governor Patrick says casino revenue could fund improvements to the state's infrastructure, but the Transportation Finance Commission is recommending that drivers should bear more of the costs, via a hike in the gas tax and a new state roads 'user fee.'

WBUR's Shannon Mullen reports on the plan and reaction to its details.
