Tornado Watch Canceled For Much Of New England

The National Weather Service has canceled a tornado watch for much of New England and says the storm is over.

The tornado watch had been in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for all of Connecticut and Massachusetts except Cape Cod and the islands, all of Rhode Island except Block Island, southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire.

The National Weather Service says there had been reports of funnel clouds in the region but no confirmed sightings of a tornado.

Mitch Gross with Connecticut Light & Power Co. says about 6,700 customers were still without power Sunday night, down from 12,000 earlier. He says Newtown was among the hardest hit towns.

Gross says some customers might not regain power until Monday morning.

This program aired on June 7, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
