Brown: GOP Planned Parenthood Cuts 'Go Too Far'

Sen. Scott Brown is rejecting calls from fellow Republican lawmakers to strip all federal funding for Planned Parenthood as long as the organization performs abortions.

Brown said Tuesday that although no part of the federal budget should be immune from cuts given the nation's fiscal troubles, the elimination of all federal funds for Planned Parenthood "goes too far."

Brown's statement comes after he voted with Senate Republicans in favor of a budget that included the Planned Parenthood cuts. The budget passed the GOP-led House, but failed in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Brown said he supports family planning and health services for women and hopes both sides can find a compromise.

Sen. John Kerry, a Democrat and supporter of the organization, called Planned Parenthood "a vital part of health care in Massachusetts."
